Mumbai is all set to get its first-ever ropeway, promising a scenic, eco-friendly adventure right in the heart of the urban jungle. Inspired by the ropeways of Manali and Himachal Pradesh, this upcoming project will let Mumbaikars enjoy a bird’s-eye view of nature — without having to leave the city.
The planned 3-kilometre ropeway will link Aarey–JVLR Metro Station with the Sanjay Gandhi National Park, offering an aerial passage over lush green canopies. In a city known for its fast pace and traffic snarls, this project aims to provide not just a refreshing leisure ride, but also enhance last-mile connectivity to the Mumbai Metro’s Line 3 (Aqua Line).
The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) confirmed that the ropeway will also pass through Film City, further adding to its appeal. Once operational, it is expected to carry between 2,000 and 3,000 passengers per hour.
Although the specific gondola system, mono-cable, bi-cable, or tri-cable, has not been finalized yet, authorities are ensuring that the chosen technology is modern, efficient, and sustainable.
For families with kids, this ropeway could become a top weekend destination.
