Maharashtra is all set to showcase one of its most breathtaking natural spectacles. The iconic Kaas Plateau, often called the “Valley of Flowers of Maharashtra,” will open its gates to visitors from September 4, 2025. Nestled in the Sahyadri range in Satara district, this UNESCO World Heritage site transforms into a riot of colors during its short-lived flowering season, attracting nature lovers, photographers, and curious travellers from across the country.
This year, visitors will enjoy a well-organized experience designed to protect the fragile ecosystem. Online booking is mandatory, and offline visitors will not be allowed entry. Tickets and advance bookings can be made via the official website: www.kas.ind.in. The plateau operates in three time slots—7 am to 11 am, 11 am to 3 pm, and 3 pm to 6 pm, with a daily visitor allocation of 3,000. A nominal entry fee of Rs 150 per person and a guide fee of Rs 200 ensures resources for maintenance. Buses will shuttle visitors from parking areas to the plateau for a smooth and convenient journey.
Facilities have been significantly upgraded: additional toilets, drinking water points, and first aid stations have been set up, while volunteers and CCTV surveillance ensure decorum and safeguard the delicate flora. Authorities are also considering one-way traffic on approach roads to reduce congestion, promising a hassle-free visit.
A Floral Wonderland in the Heart of MaharashtraSpanning 1,000 hectares of rugged lateritic land, Kaas Plateau, also known as Kaas Pathar, remains relatively barren for most of the year. But when the monsoon rains arrive between August and October, the plateau bursts into life. Delicate orchids, rare lithophytes, and ground-hugging herbs paint the landscape in waves of pink, purple, yellow, and white, with over 850 species of flowering plants recorded here—many found nowhere else in the world.
The name “Kaas” is believed to have originated from the Kaasa tree (Elaeocarpus glandulosus), a native species revered by local communities. Today, Kaas is closely monitored by conservationists as a key indicator of ecological health.
