As the number of people travelling during this festive season skyrockets, many of them will use the Tatkal quota to get last-minute tickets in train services. Tatkal booking is one day before the departure of the origin station of the train: at 10:00 a.m. in the case of AC classes and 11:00 a.m. in the case of non-AC classes. This is because this is when you need to be ready, exactly when you are making a booking.
First, create your account and make sure that your Aadhaar account is connected, because according to the recent rules, verified profiles are only allowed to purchase Tatkal tickets. Pre-list all the passengers, to eliminate needless wastages of time typing names, ages and ID numbers as the clock strikes the booking window. Pre-book the travelling date, source and destination, and choose Tatkal.
The second step is to prepare the payment method. Use UPI or e-wallets that have stored credentials- they are quicker than credit cards or slow gateways. Even seconds can make the difference between success and waiting list during high-demand times. Connect several minutes early, via a reliable internet connection, through the official application or website. Minimise distractions: close down other windows, turn off pop-ups, and train on CAPTCHA answers so that when you are on your toes, you do not blank out.
Flexibility helps too. When your train or road of choice is overbooked, consider finding connecting options, other boarding stations in the area or different times-they tend to be free. The Premium Tatkal is also a good option to consider in case you have to travel and you are more likely to be assured with a higher price.
It is important to remember that once confirmed, Tatkal tickets are not refundable. Waitlisted individuals can be automatically cancelled and refunded subsequently. Concisely: be early, be prepared and be flexible. Following these steps, you are likely to have a Tatkal ticket this season of festivity.
