Flipkart checks in with Marriott, ties-up to turn loyalty points into travel perks

The new loyalty program partnership aims to expand the user base from 700 million members especially during the ongoing festive season.

In a first, an e-commerce platform has tied up with a global hospitality chain as Flipkart and Marriott have come together to amp up their loyalty program reach.

This alliance brings together Marriott Bonvoy’s, the hotel chain's travel platform, global rewards ecosystem and Flipkart’s SuperCoins, a multi-brand rewards program, the companies announced on August 19.

"People can link their Marriott Bonvoy reward points and SuperCoins which means they become interchangeable in nature. With every shopping that somebody does on Flipkart, they have an opportunity to earn Marriott Bonvoy points. If you shop on Flipkart, you can potentially book Marriott rooms," Manjari Singhal, Head, Flipkart Travel, told Moneycontrol.

John Toomey, Chief Commercial Officer, Asia Pacific excluding China, Marriott International pointed out that both loyalty programs currently have a combined user base of 700 million members. "We certainly want our user bases to grow but I think the partnership will result in more stickiness.

He added that Marriott's 160 hotels will be available under this partnership. "In the coming months, we are going to expand that internationally as well, so Flipkart members will have an opportunity to utilize their points across a wide array of hotels across the world."

He added that by the end of next year they are going to be in 80 cities. "We are going to have hotels in secondary and tertiary cities for consumers to use if they want to travel domestically, if they want to transfer those SuperCoins points to Marriott Bonvoy points and travel internationally, that option is going to be available for them as well."

Toomey expects big upside from this loyalty program partnership.

"We are investing heavily in India from a resource standpoint, we're already the largest hospitality group in India and globally now as well. India is our fourth largest market globally."

He added that 2025 so far has been a record year in terms of hotel bookings and occupancy for Marriott.

Some of the  benefits of the partnership include — joint customers who have linked their accounts can transfer Flipkart SuperCoins to Marriott Bonvoy points and redeem the same for booking hotels on Marriott.com.

Members can exchange Marriott Bonvoy points to Flipkart SuperCoins and redeem the same for shopping on Flipkart at the exchange rate of two Marriott Bonvoy points to one SuperCoin, and two SuperCoins to one Marriott Bonvoy point.

Marriott Bonvoy member benefits are accessible to Flipkart members directly through the platform (FK Travel), the categories page, SuperCoin Zone and the account section.

The partnership extends Marriott Bonvoy’s value beyond hotel stays, integrating it more seamlessly into daily life.
