This price spike came on the back of news that ex-telecom minister Dayanidhi Maran, his brother Kalanithi Maran and the latter's wife Kaveri Kalanithi, were discharged by a special court on Thursday on charges of bribery and money laundering in the Aircel-Maxis deal.

The special 2G court, headed by OP Saini, in it's order, held that CBI has relied on misreading if official documents, to make out a case against the accused. As per the special court, CBI relied heavily on merely speculation and surmises of the complainant, C Sivasankaran.

The Aircel-Maxis deal "fairly and squarely falls within the description of 2G scam", a special court today said while holding that it has the jurisdiction to try the matter against ex-Telecom minister Dayanidhi Maran, his brother Kalanithi and others.

Red FM, an associate company of Kalanithi Maran-promoted Sun TV Group, has been granted extension in three circles-- Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata. Here, the licenses were to expire on September 30.

The CBI as part of the original chargesheet in the Aircel-Maxis case had charged a number of parties including the Maran brothers, the company Sun, Maxis Group and Ananda Krishnan.

Just before a bench comprising Justices V Gopalagowda and R Banumathi was about to rise for the lunch break, Additional Solicitor General (ASG) Pinky Anand mentioned on behalf of CBI that all matters arising out of the 2G spectrum scam probe were being heard by a bench headed by Chief Justice of India.

Besides the Maran brothers, the CBI has named Malaysian business tycoon T Ananda Krishnan, Malaysian national Augustus Ralph Marshall and four firms: Sun Direct TV Pvt Ltd, Maxis Communication Berhad, Astro All Asia Network PLC and South Asia Entertainment Holding Ltd - as accused in the case.

The CBI on Monday conducted raids at former telecom minister Dayanidhi Maran's residence in connection to the 2G spectrum scam.

CBI today told the Supreme Court that it has got evidence against DMK MP Dayanidhi Maran in 2G spectrum scam and will file an FIR against him within a couple of days for various offences including showing 'undue favour' shown to Aircel.

The CBI is yet to finalise its chargesheet in the Loop-Essar matter, but the agency has completed its probe in the Maran-Aircel affair. Sources told CNBC-TV18 that the formal charges will be filed soon.
