Microsoft’s Xbox Cloud Gaming service is currently available to Xbox Game Pass players, who are paying for the top-tier of the gaming subscription plan, which costs $19.99 per month. Thankfully, this plan may not remain that expensive for long, as recent statements from Jason Ronald, Microsoft’s VP of Next Generation, suggest that the company is looking at making Xbox Cloud Gaming “more affordable” again.
Xbox Cloud Gaming tipped to be cheaper: Key details
During the official Xbox podcast, Jason Ronald, vice president of experiences at Xbox, discussed about future plans of Xbox Cloud Gaming. It has been previously revealed that Microsoft has been considering a dedicated, affordable cloud service, potentially powered by ads. However, Ronald confirmed on the official Xbox podcast that the company is planning to make the cloud subscription service more affordable.
“One of the things we see is there’s a lot of players who use Game Pass Ultimate to access the cloud, whether that’s the primary way they play, or an additional way to play on the go,” Ronald said on the official Xbox podcast. “I think for us, it really opens up the opportunity to make it much more affordable, and make it more accessible to players. Whether that’s going into new regions, or new ways to actually access the [Xbox] cloud.”
That’s not confirmation of a cheaper alternative cloud gaming tier from the company, but it hints at the firm’s plans to introduce it. This could also mean that Xbox might be interested in opening up new ways to access Cloud Gaming without having to subscribe to the Game Pass Ultimate subscription. During the podcast, the executives also hinted at the possibility of opening the cloud gaming service to more countries around the world, possibly in India as well.
