X (Twitter) down globally: Users are reporting login issues with app and website

Microblogging platform X (formerly known as Twitter) suffered a major global outage earlier today and once again the platform is going through the outage for the second time on May 24, 2025. Downdetector has reported that it has over 25,000 users reporting issues on Downdetector as of 6:07 PM IST. The surge in complaints marked a dramatic increase compared to the platform's baseline of just nine incident reports.

According to Downdetector data, a significant 68% of the problems were related to the X mobile app, followed by 24% reporting issues with the website. Server connection problems accounted for 8% of the reports. The spike began around late evening and escalated rapidly, suggesting a large-scale disruption across multiple regions.

Many users took to other platforms to express their frustration. One user commented that they were unable to post anything and suspected a technical error on X’s part. Others reported login issues and missing timelines, indicating that the disruption affected core platform functionalities.

As of publishing, X has not issued any official statement acknowledging or explaining the outage.
