X may gives users the option to disable links in replies

Popular social media platform X is developing a new feature that will let users block unwanted spam links in replies to tackle bots.

Social media platform X

Elon Musk’s X has faced harsh criticisms since he took over the social media platform about a couple of years ago. One such complaint made by multiple users of X (formerly known as Twitter) is that they receive a plague of spam bot replies on the platform, which ultimately ruins their experience.

To combat this issue, the developers at X are reportedly testing a new feature that will allow users to disable links in replies to their posts. According to an app researcher named Nima Owji, who has a good reputation for reporting upcoming features on X, the new feature would allow users to check a box if they don’t want people to be able to include a link in replies to their published posts.

Christopher Stanley, the Senior Director for Security Engineering at X, also confirmed the development of this feature, while replying to a post stated "My team built this.” The link disabling feature is helpful to keep readers directed at the actual post and not to access something irrelevant to the actual post.

It would be also helpful to stop many bot accounts from posting spammy or unwanted links that flood popular posts with objectionable content. There is no confirmation when this feature will be available but it seems like X users can expect it to arrive in the coming weeks.

This is the latest in a series of platform updates planned by X, including the introduction of an in-app currency for creators, enhanced user ID verification, and many more.
