Apple just gave us a peek into some exciting new features coming to AirPods — and if you’re someone who records podcasts, shoots videos, or just loves making content, this is going to be big. The update will be available for the upcoming AirPods 4, AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation, and the latest AirPods Pro 2.
Let’s start with the highlight: studio-quality audio recording. You’ll now be able to record really clear, professional-sounding vocals using just your AirPods. Whether you're interviewing someone, singing, or recording a podcast while on a walk, this update helps cut out background noise and keeps your voice front and center. Apple’s using the H2 chip, better microphones, and something they call “computational audio” to make sure your voice sounds as natural and clear as possible — even if you're in a noisy room or outdoors.
That same technology also improves how your voice sounds during calls. So if you’re chatting on FaceTime, doing a video call for work, or just using your iPhone to talk to someone, your voice will come through more clearly. The feature will also work with dictation, messages, and voice memos, as well as popular video conferencing and recording apps.
Another cool feature coming is the camera remote control. This basically lets you control your iPhone or iPad camera using your AirPods. Just press and hold the stem to start a video or take a picture — and press again to stop recording. It’s perfect if you're filming yourself and don’t want to run back and forth to hit the record button. Think dance videos, singing sessions, or anything where you want to be hands-free and in control.
These features are available to developers starting today, and a public beta version will be out next month. Everyone else will get access to them this fall, once Apple rolls out iOS 26, iPadOS 26, and macOS Tahoe 26. The update will be free, though some features might not work in every region or language.
All in all, Apple seems to be turning the AirPods into more than just earbuds. They're becoming a tool — a handy sidekick — for anyone who loves creating content and wants to keep things simple and high-quality at the same time.
