WhatsApp will soon let AI rewrite your messages before you send them

For now, Writing Help is in early testing with a small group of beta users on Android (version 2.25.23.7 via the Google Play Beta programme). It could see changes before its public rollout, and more tones may be added over time.

Soon, you might have a little AI helper sitting inside your WhatsApp chats. The Meta-owned messaging app is working on a new feature called Writing Help, designed to give you suggestions for how to phrase your messages, fix grammar slips, or even change the tone — all before you hit send.

Spotted by feature tracker WABetaInfo in the latest WhatsApp beta for Android, Writing Help is powered by Meta’s Private Processing technology. This means your message request is sent through an encrypted and anonymous route, so it cannot be linked back to your identity. WhatsApp says it will not store the content or related data, and AI suggestions will only appear if you choose to use the feature.

Here’s how it works. You type a message as usual. If Writing Help is enabled, you will see a small pen icon in place of the sticker icon once you have typed a few words. Tap it, and WhatsApp will send your message to Meta AI for a quick polish. In return, you will get up to three rewritten suggestions in different tones such as Professional, Funny, Supportive, Proofread, or Rephrase. You can pick one, tweak it, or simply stick to your original. The recipient will not know the message was AI-assisted.

Importantly, WhatsApp stresses that Writing Help is optional and off by default. It works only on the specific message you select — not on your entire conversation — and the app will never send AI-generated texts without your consent.

If it launches widely, this feature could be handy for people who want to sound more polished in professional chats, add a touch of humour to friendly messages, or simply get a little help when they are stuck on what to say. AI will not take over your WhatsApp conversations, but it might make them sound just the way you want.
