Google Search 2025

Every December, Google’s “Year in Search” tells us something about India that statistics and surveys often miss. It tells us what we wondered about at 2 a.m., what made us laugh, what shocked us, what we cooked, what we feared and what we celebrated together. And 2025 was a year where India searched with curiosity, emotion and an unmistakable mix of tradition and tech.

This year’s searches show a country that embraced the future through AI, but also stayed rooted in culture, festivals and food. It was a year where “Google Gemini” became a household term and also a year where people looked up recipes for Thekua, Modak and even Yorkshire pudding.

Cricket, unsurprisingly, dominated the nation’s attention. IPL was the most-searched topic of the entire year, once again proving that nothing unites India like cricket. But 2025 was also a defining year for women’s cricket. Searches surged for matches like India Women vs South Africa Women, and athletes like Jemimah Rodrigues, Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma climbed the trending lists. Teen sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi emerged as the top trending personality overall, showing how quickly new heroes capture the country’s imagination.

Entertainment had its own story to tell. Saiyaara turned into a nationwide obsession, making its lead actors Aneet Padda and Ahaan Panday the top trending entertainment personalities. The film itself topped movie searches, while its title track became the most searched song of the year. South cinema also held its ground, with Kantara, Coolie, Marco and Game Changer dominating language-specific searches.

But 2025 wasn’t just about fun and fandom. People turned to Google during moments of uncertainty too. “Earthquake near me” and “Air Quality near me” were among the year’s most important “near me” queries. The mid-show walkout during Bryan Johnson’s appearance on Nikhil Kamath’s podcast even sparked a national conversation on pollution.

India also stayed tuned to global and national events. “What is ceasefire” was the year’s top meaning search, while the Maha Kumbh became both the biggest news event and the top travel query as people planned their journeys. Searches for Operation Sindoor reflected the collective attention on security updates following the Pahalgam attack.

On the lighter side, India explored new internet obsessions. Labubu, the tiny collectible toy, became a viral mystery for many. The “67 meme” puzzled the internet enough to push millions to search for clarity. Nano Banana, a quirky AI trend powered by Gemini’s image tools, turned casual users into amateur creators overnight.

And of course, food continued to bring India together. While idli topped recipe searches, festive dishes like Ukadiche Modak, Ugadi Pachadi and Thekua showed how strong our connection to tradition remains.

Put together, India’s search habits in 2025 paint a picture of a nation that is adventurous yet nostalgic, tech-savvy yet deeply cultural, and always curious. It is a country that wants to know what’s trending, what’s meaningful, what’s tasty, what’s safe and what’s next.

In other words, the India that shows up on Search is exactly the India we see around us.
