Robot vacuum cleaners have been around for quite some time, but at CES, a new robot vacuum cleaner was unveiled that stands out from the usual round-moving devices we’ve seen before. While it still retains the round shape, it comes with an exciting addition—a robotic arm. Now, you might be wondering: why add an arm to a vacuum cleaner? Well, this feature allows it to pick up objects and place them back, perhaps on a surface. Let’s dive in to learn more about this personal butler and the company behind it.

What is the new robot?

Roborock, a competitor to Roomba, has launched the world's first-ever robot vacuum cleaner equipped with an arm. The device, named Saros Z70, can pick up items lying in its path. However, there’s a catch. As per a report by The Verge, the robot can only pick up objects weighing less than 300 grams. This means it is best suited for picking up lightweight items like socks, tissues, or small towels.

While the concept is never heard of or seen before, the report highlights that the vacuum cleaner operates quite slowly. So, if you’re expecting it to tidy up as quickly as you can or as your househelp can, you might be disappointed. The pricing hasn’t been announced yet, but The Verge reports that the device is expected to be available in the US in 2025.

How does it work?

Here’s what makes the Saros Z70 intriguing: when it encounters an object in its path, it can pick it up and place it in a cleaned area. You can also use the Roborock app to designate a specific spot for the item. For instance, if you’d like your towel placed near a particular chair, you can set that location on the app’s map.

This innovative vacuum cleaner might just be the ultimate personal assistant many of us have been waiting for.
