Tata Communications, Cisco launch cloud-based Webex Calling for enterprises

Tata Communications and Cisco on May 22 launched cloud-based Webex Calling for enterprises in India. Enterprises will be able to use Webex Calling for scalable and regulatory-compliant communication solutions for businesses transitioning to the cloud.

Both companies highlighted that cloud adoption has surprised even the most optimistic pundits and Webex Calling will provide enterprises with a one-stop cohesive solution, which is missing in the Indian market. They said less than 5 percent of enterprises present on the cloud have calling services available to them.

Webex Calling delivers enterprise-grade calling powered on the cloud, situated in a Mumbai data centre, to provide flexible deployment options and a centralised administration. Cisco will provide the cloud infrastructure while the underlying voice and managed services including end-devices will be provided by the Tata Group company.

They disclosed that their partnership with Starbucks has resolved the hassle of dealing with multiple service provider in different countries.

The services were available in the international markets from 2020 in over 50 countries.

“Earlier, cloud calling was possible but through on-premises infrastructure, but today customers can do it through cloud,” Arijit Bonnerjee, Sr Vice President and Head – India, Tata Communications, told Moneycontrol.

The pricing model will be different for enterprises, small and medium businesses, and individual customers.

The product has been trained on large language models that can detect and cut out unwanted background noises even if a “jet is passing above”, spokesperson for Daisy Chittilapilly, President, Cisco India, said.

Webex Calling will help enterprises scale communication infrastructure while also complying with applicable laws in India, without upfront investments in server hardware, Chittilapilly said.

Cisco said the biggest differentiator of Webex Calling is that there are no limits for users to login and companies can host townhalls and webinars hassle-free.
