State Bank of India’s (SBI) UPI services have been facing technical issues, affecting users across the country. Several customers have reported failures in making UPI transactions through the bank, impacting payments via apps such as Google Pay, PhonePe, and Paytm for users who rely on SBI accounts for UPI transactions.
SBI confirms UPI issues
SBI has acknowledged the issue in a post on X (formerly Twitter), stating: “We are facing technical issues in UPI, due to which customers may face issues in availing UPI services. UPI Services will be resumed by 17:00 Hrs IST dated 11.03.2025.” The bank has advised customers to use UPI Lite services for uninterrupted transactions in the meantime.
Users report outages
Downdetector data shows a sharp rise in outage reports for SBI’s UPI services, with complaints peaking around 2:30 PM IST. About 60% of reported issues were related to mobile banking, 36% to online banking, and 4% to login failures. Users have taken to social media to express concerns about failed transactions.
Impact on other UPI services
Since SBI is a major UPI partner for multiple payment platforms, its outage has also affected users making transactions via third-party UPI apps linked to SBI accounts. Some users reported delays and failed transactions on Google Pay and PhonePe. However, UPI services from other banks remain operational.
Service restoration timeline
SBI has stated that services are expected to be restored by 5 PM IST. Customers relying on SBI UPI services may need to switch to alternative payment methods or use UPI Lite until full functionality is restored.
