Starlink denies India pricing leak, says website glitch exposed dummy test data

A Starlink pricing leak set off a frenzy in India earlier today, but the company has now stepped in to say none of it was real. The supposed India tariffs were the result of a brief website glitch, not an official launch or announcement.

Starlink has officially denied reports claiming its India pricing was revealed on the company’s website earlier today. The brief appearance of tariff numbers sparked a wave of speculation, especially since the Indian launch has been pending for years. However, Lauren Dreyer, Vice President of Starlink Business Operations, has now clarified that what users saw was simply placeholder data that was never meant for public view.

In a post on X, Dreyer said the Starlink India website is not live and the company is not accepting orders in the country. She also stressed that Starlink has not announced pricing for India and any figures circulating online are inaccurate. According to her, a configuration glitch caused internal dummy data to appear temporarily, which was fixed quickly once spotted.

Enthusiasm around Starlink’s entry into India has been steadily growing, driven by the promise of high speed satellite internet in regions with limited connectivity. The leaked prices triggered immediate debate about affordability and feasibility, only for the company to state that none of it reflected Starlink’s actual plans for the market.

Dreyer added that the company remains committed to launching in India and is focused on securing final government approvals before switching the service on. Until that regulatory process concludes, both the website and the order system will remain inactive.

For now, potential customers will have to wait a little longer to find out what Starlink will actually cost in India and when service will go live. The company’s message is clear: the pricing chatter is premature and the real numbers will only arrive once the launch is officially approved.
