Gemini support on an iPhone is currently limited through the Google App, with limited features and no native integration with the iOS ecosystem. However, this could change soon as recent developments suggest that Android may soon lose its exclusive access to Gemini, as the standalone Google Gemini app was spotted briefly on the App Store regionally.
Google’s Gemini AI app listed on the App Store: Key details
According to a report by 9to5Google, an iPhone user from the Philippines was able to download the standalone Gemini app from the App Store. The user also shared an unofficial App Store link of the app. However, the application is still not available in regions outside of the Philippines.
Further, the report suggests that this app will introduce an updated interface for Gemini on iOS, adding multiple features, especially those not found on the Android app. These include a Gemini icon on the home screen, a customizable shortcut for quick access from the home screen, and support for the Gemini Live feature.
Moreover, the Gemini AI support will allow for free-flowing conversations with the chatbot. Gemini Live is also expected to bring the Live Activity feature on iOS, enabling it to remain active in the background while the iPhone is in use for operation via voice command or custom action.
For now, the app could be in a testing phase, with a broader release potentially coming in the next few weeks. It’s also uncertain which iPhone models and iOS versions will fully support the Gemini AI app.
