SIM card fraud: How to check active mobile numbers issued on your Aadhaar card

SIM card fraud has emerged as a growing concern in India as stolen or misused identity documents are increasingly used to obtain mobile connections. To address this, the government has introduced an official mechanism that allows citizens to verify how many mobile numbers are linked to their Aadhaar and report any unauthorised connections.

  • TAFCOP portal lets users check all SIM cards linked to their Aadhaar online
  • Users can report unknown or unused numbers for disconnection via the portal
  • Regular checks help prevent identity misuse and financial fraud

In many cases of financial fraud, cybercrime, and illegal activities, mobile numbers play a central role. If a SIM card is issued using your Aadhaar details without your knowledge, the legal and financial consequences can fall on you. To curb this risk, the Department of Telecommunications has launched a consumer-facing portal that helps users identify and report suspicious mobile connections registered in their name.

Step-by-step guide to check active SIM cards on your Aadhaar

The government’s TAFCOP portal makes the verification process simple and fully online. Follow these steps carefully:

Open the official TAFCOP website: https://tafcop.sancharsaathi.gov.in/telecomUser/

Enter your active mobile number in the given field. This number must be linked to your Aadhaar.

Complete the captcha verification shown on the screen.

Tap on the “Request OTP” option.

Enter the one-time password received on your mobile number.

Log in to access the dashboard.

View the complete list of mobile numbers currently registered against your Aadhaar card.

This list includes all active connections issued using your identity, across different telecom operators.

How to report an unknown or unused mobile number

Once the list is visible, users are advised to verify whether each number belongs to them or an immediate family member. If any number appears unfamiliar, the portal provides three clear options:

Not my number: Select this if the connection does not belong to you or your family. This raises a request for disconnection.

Not required: Use this option if the number was earlier used by you but is no longer needed.

Required: Choose this if the number is valid and actively used by you.

After submission, the request is processed by telecom authorities and the concerned operator.

Why this check is important

The Telecom Analytics for Fraud Management & Consumer Protection portal, commonly known as TAFCOP, plays a key role in preventing identity misuse. Regularly checking Aadhaar-linked SIM cards helps reduce the risk of financial fraud, fake account creation, and misuse of personal identity for illegal activities.
