With India becoming one of the most polluted countries in the world, the need for a good, effective and efficient air purifier is slowly becoming a norm in urban households. One good option is the all-new Sharp air purifier which, according to the company, is not only an air purifier but also a dehumidifier and mold control feature and can also serve as a cloth dryer.
That’s a lot of features and functions to be packed into a single device. I decided to give it a try and find out how many of those features are effective and if this air purifier is any good – as an air purifier. Here’s my review of its features, performance, and whether it’s worth the investment.
Performance and features
The highlight of this unit is its Plasmacluster Ion Technology, which purifies the air by emitting positive and negative ions. This technology claims to neutralise mould spores, bacteria, and even viruses. After a week of use, I noticed a marked reduction in stale odours, particularly in areas prone to dampness like the laundry room. In fact, the overall household started feeling fresh and more breathable.

But, I was more interested in testing it as an air purifier. The air purifier comes with SHARP’s filtration system that combines three layers for comprehensive air cleaning:
• Pre-Filter: Captures larger particles like dust and pet hair. This filter is easy to clean and designed to last a lifetime.
• HEPA Filter: Traps 99.97% of microscopic particles as small as 0.3 microns, including allergens. As someone with seasonal allergies, this feature has been a blessing.
• Active Carbon Filter: Neutralises household odours and removes VOCs effectively. Cooking smells and pet odours dissipated quickly, leaving the air fresh.

As soon as I started the air purifier, it instantly measured the AQI level of the room and then started the purification process. I have an AQI monitor at home which measures the AQI level at 400 which is poor. I ran the air purifier for around 30 minutes and with its 550 sq ft range, it managed to bring the AQI level down to around 67 which was impressive.
Then I tried to push its limits by adding some smoke to the room. The air purifier also handled it pretty well by clearing the smoke almost in 5 minutes. It also reduced the overall smell of the smoke.

Covering up to 550 sq. ft., this device is suitable for medium to large rooms. Despite continuous operation, its power consumption remains low, with a maximum of 50W on high settings, making it cost-efficient.
One of the standout features is its ability to remove 20 litres of moisture per day, even in highly humid conditions. This proved invaluable during the monsoon season, where dampness often caused discomfort and mould growth. Well, considering the temperature, there’s not much humidity around, and the capacity seems to be pretty effective and functional. Also, a 4.6L tank is spacious enough for hours of operation and if you don’t want the hassle of clearing out the water tank regularly, there’s a continuous drainage option that ensures hassle-free use.
As I mentioned, the air purifier has a host of modes and functions and with that comes a lot of buttons and settings. Here’s what you should know about the functions and features of the air purifier:
• Auto Mode: Adapts settings based on air quality.
• Dehumidifying Mode: Maintains optimal humidity levels, preventing mould and mildew.
• Laundry Mode: Dries clothes faster, saving time and effort.
• Deodorizing Mode: Eliminates strong odours effectively.
• Sleep Mode: Operates quietly at just 29 dB, perfect for nighttime use.\

I have already talked about the air purifier mode and the dehumidifier mode. Let’s talk about the laundry mode as it seems fascinating. Before that, let’s be clear, that this is more like a ‘Jugaad’ and not a full cloth dryer.
For what it’s worth, the feature moves the air blades towards the front and keeps moving top and bottom at full blast to dry the clothes. But, for this, you’ll need to hang the cloth in front of it and then use the cold air from the machine to dry it. It’s more like drying the cloth under the fan but in a fashionable way.
The feature is good enough if you are planning to dry some damp clothes to prevent them from smelling or refresh your clothes for next use.
Overall, when it comes to core functionality, the Sharp air purifier does the job impressively. However, when it comes to secondary features like cloth drying, the usefulness will be subjective. For instance, I liked the fact that I could hang my gym clothes to dry in front of it and let it dry for the next day.
To make things easier, Sharp has also added some sensors to the mix. The air purifier comes with real-time monitoring of PM2.5 levels, humidity, and temperature which gave me a clear picture of my indoor air quality. The tank-full indicator and odour sensor were especially useful for daily management.
Design
Now, let’s talk about the design. At first glance, the air purifier isn’t going to give you that ‘wow’ factor. But if you are looking for a functional design, this is the one for you. First up, it weighs 16.7kg and that’s heavy and some wheels help you move the air purifier from one place to another.
All the buttons are placed at the top for simple and easy controls and all the indicators, including the colour-coded AQI level indicator, are at the front so you can get the information in a single glance.
The top also has adjustable and movable blades for directing the airflow and it works flawlessly.
Verdict
At Rs 34,990, it’s priced on the higher side, but one that offers excellent value considering its features and durability. If you’re battling high humidity, allergens, or persistent odours looking for a fully capable – an all-rounder – then this device is a worthwhile addition to your home.
