A popular sex toy app made by Lovense has come under fire after serious security bugs were discovered. According to TechCrunch, these bugs could have let hackers access users’ private data — including their email addresses  and even take full control of their accounts.

The issue was first brought to light by a security researcher who goes by the name BobDaHacker. He found two big problems in the app and reported them to Lovense earlier this year. But according to him, the company wasn’t in a hurry to fix them. Instead of taking quick action, Lovense said it would take 14 months to fully fix the problem, rather than using a faster fix that would also alert users to update their apps.

Frustrated by the delay, the researcher shared the findings publicly. After that, Lovense released a statement confirming that the bugs had been fixed. They said users must now update their apps to regain full access to all features.

The company’s CEO, Dan Liu, claimed that there’s no sign that any user data was misused. However, tech journalists were able to verify that the bug exposing users’ email addresses was real raising concerns about how Lovense came to that conclusion.

Now, the company is also considering legal action though it's unclear whether that’s directed at the researcher, media outlets, or someone else.
