Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has been around at Microsoft for a while and has seen how the PC has drastically changed over the years. Nadella and Microsoft are gearing up to make another significant change.

Speaking at a the Microsoft Surface AI event, Nadella introduced the new Copilot Plus PCs. Nadella recalled how 30 years ago Microsoft introduced Win32 and changed the PC game. Now, with Copilot PCs, Microsoft is ready to do that again. “We're entering this new era where computers not only understand us but can actually anticipate what we want and our intent is,” said Nadella at a media briefing session at Microsoft’s campus in Redmond, Seattle.

Nadella also spoke about how this new category of devices “can see us, hear us” and deliver experiences that would make every organisation, every user better.

Microsoft unveiled a slew of new AI features coming to Windows and Nadella was optimistic about how it will create more opportunities. “The web was born on Windows, we are again creating a new opportunity across our entire ecosystem as we build this new category together,” said Nadella.

Copilot+ PCs, according to Microsoft, leverage powerful processors and multiple state-of-the-art AI models, including several of Microsoft’s world-class small language models to enhance the user experience. “Copilot+ PCs are the fastest, most intelligent Windows PCs ever built. With powerful new silicon capable of an incredible 40+ TOPS (trillion operations per second), all–day battery life and much more," Nadella said about the new category Microsoft is creating.

He also stressed that how the core architecture — “systems, silicon and AI” — will ensure that everything is run locally on the device. “We are bringing in an al-new SoC and a completely modernised OS for these incredible experiences,” said Nadella.

The Microsoft CEO stressed on Microsoft’s “partner-first” approach as it is working with Intel, AMD, and Qualcomm to integrate processors in the new Copilot+ PCs. Microsoft is also partnering with Asus, Samsung, Dell, Lenovo, Acer, HP for an all-new range of Copilot+ PCs.

Nadella pointed out that the AI wave is coming to PCs and Microsoft wants to do it responsibly and keep user privacy and security at the heart of it.
