Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has officially announced GitHub Spark, a new AI-powered tool designed to help developers turn ideas into full-stack applications using natural language. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Nadella described Spark as “a new tool in Copilot that turns your ideas into full-stack apps, entirely in natural language.”
What is GitHub Spark?
GitHub Spark is part of the GitHub Copilot ecosystem and is aimed at simplifying the process of building and deploying applications. Users can describe what they want to build, and Spark generates both frontend and backend code—powered by Claude Sonnet 4—with no need for manual setup or configuration.
Build without setup
Spark includes everything required to go from idea to app: hosting, GitHub authentication, LLM inference, and deployment tools. Developers get a complete GitHub repository with GitHub Actions and Dependabot already configured. Apps can be deployed with just one click, and unlike sandboxed tools, Spark apps remain fully integrated with the GitHub platform.
AI integration made simple
Spark supports built-in AI capabilities from major models like OpenAI, Meta, DeepSeek, and xAI—without requiring any API key management. Developers can use natural language to iterate on their app, tweak it visually, or switch to code mode with GitHub Copilot offering real-time suggestions.
Copilot Pro+ access and advanced features
The tool is currently available in public preview for GitHub Copilot Pro+ subscribers. Users can open a codespace directly from Spark to collaborate with Copilot agents or assign coding tasks to Copilot’s automated agents. All interactions count toward the premium request quota included in Copilot Pro+.
Availability
GitHub Spark is now live in public preview for Pro+ users, with plans to expand access in the coming months. Developers can try it now by visiting github.com/spark or by upgrading to the Copilot Pro+ plan.
