Sandisk launches WD_BLACK SN8100 NVMe SSD with PCIe Gen 5.0, up to 14,900MB/s read speed

Sandisk has announced the launch of its latest high-performance SSD — the WD_BLACK SN8100 NVMe — featuring PCIe Gen 5.0 technology. Designed for gamers, content creators, and AI professionals, the SSD offers read speeds of up to 14,900MB/s and is available in capacities up to 8TB.

The WD_BLACK SN8100 is built on PCIe Gen 5.0 x4 NVMe M.2 architecture, offering up to twice the performance of Sandisk’s previous Gen 4.0 SSDs. Sequential read and write speeds reach up to 14,900MB/s and 14,000MB/s, respectively, while random read performance tops out at over 2.3 million IOPS for select models.

Alongside performance, the SSD also delivers improved power efficiency, consuming an average of 7W or less during operation — making it over 100% more efficient than its predecessor. The drive uses Sandisk’s BiCS8 TLC 3D NAND and offers endurance up to 2,400TBW on the 4TB variant.

Sandisk also introduced a version of the SN8100 with an integrated heatsink. Designed using low-profile anodized aluminum, the heatsink variant avoids the need for active cooling while including customizable RGB lighting.

The SN8100 targets users with demanding workloads such as 4K/8K video editing, modern PC gaming, and AI model training. With up to 8TB capacity expected later this year, it aims to support large game libraries and AI data processing alike.

Price in India
The standard WD_BLACK SN8100 NVMe SSD is available now in 1TB (₹17,499), 2TB, and 4TB variants. The heatsink version starts at ₹18,999 for the 1TB model and will be available in additional capacities this fall. An 8TB model is expected to launch later this year.

Availability
Both variants are now available through major IT resellers and e-commerce platforms in India. Additional configurations, including higher-capacity models, will roll out in the coming months.
