Earlier at the start of this year, Samsung teased its first tri-fold smartphone at the Galaxy S25 series launch event, and the device has now been rumoured to be unveiled at next week’s Galaxy Unpacked event, with its sale expected to happen later this year. However, a new animated image of the handset, which is tipped to be named as Galaxy G Fold, was spotted by a publication, giving us a good look at its expected design and folding mechanism.
Samsung’s triple-foldable smartphone: Expected design
According to a report via Android Authority via Assemble Debug, animations within the latest One UI 8 build have shown a new handset with three displays. Furthermore, they showcase the device’s design with two inward folding hinges, and the left-hand display folding outwards. This means that the display on the right pane will fold inwards, with the three screens combining to provide a large multimedia experience.
Moreover, like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold series, the tri-fold smartphone renders suggest that it will house a vertically aligned camera module with three sensors. A separate animated video also shows a warning not to fold the right side of the device inward, as it may cause damage to the inner main foldable screen. The report also reveals an outer cover display with a selfie camera.
All of these animation files confirm that the upcoming Galaxy G Fold will have a different folding mechanism than the Huawei Mate XT, which uses an outward hinge. Moreover, the rumoured Samsung foldable will likely fold in the form of a G, with both panels folding inwards, and the users needing to be careful not to fold the panel outwards within the protruding camera module.
