Recent leaks and rumours have suggested that Apple is preparing its first foldable iPhone for release in 2026, featuring a small outer display and a wide inner display. Interestingly, it appears that Samsung is likely to launch another foldable device alongside the Galaxy Fold 8 series, aiming to give the Cupertino-based tech giant a tough fight in the market, with similar dimensions and screen sizes.
Samsung tipped to release a wide-screen foldable next year: Key details
As per a report by Korean news outlet ETNews, Samsung is preparing to launch a new foldable smartphone, internally codenamed ‘Wide Fold,’ in the second half of 2026. The model will reportedly feature a 7.6-inch inner screen along with a smaller 5.4-inch cover display. The wider profile means that this foldable could have a passport-like design with a 4:3 aspect ratio, and could be smaller and wider than Samsung's current taller, narrower design.
A wider, more squarish display could change how the foldable is used, particularly for daily tasks such as web browsing or when viewing photos or videos. This aspect ratio may reportedly feel closer to using a compact tablet, while also reducing the need for app developers to remaster their apps according to a foldable.
However, beyond display size and this shorter, wider aspect ratio, the report does not provide any other details about this upcoming foldable from Samsung. As for its release date, the company could release it in the fall next year alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Flip 8 smartphones.
