Samsung's rollout of the Android 15-based One UI 7 operating system has been hit with significant delays as the older Samsung smartphone users are yet to receive this update. While most major Android smartphone makers have nearly concluded the rollout of their Android 15 updates, Samsung is yet to catch up. Fortunately, things could be different with the upcoming OneUI 8 update as the Korean technology giant will reportedly release it sooner than expected.
OneUI 8 to be preinstalled on Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7, Galaxy Z Flip 7
According to insiders cited by SamMobile, One UI 8 will be preloaded on the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 and the Galaxy Z Flip 7. This potentially means that these foldable handsets, which could ideally launch in the third quarter of this year, may come running on the Android 16-based firmware out of the box. This release timeline also matches with Google’s stable release of the Android 16 update, which has already been confirmed by a Google official to be released in June 2025.
The report also adds that Samsung is said to have already begun testing its next OS. A tipster recently spotted One UI 8's internal test build on Samsung’s test firmware for the Galaxy S25 smartphones. This suggests that Samsung is likely to have begun development of its next-generation OS, much before its usual timeline.
There is no official word yet about the features that will be included with the upcoming OneUI 8 update. However, we can expect more information regarding this next-generation OS from Samsung in the coming months as the official release of Android 16 draws closer.
