The Samsung Galaxy S26+, the middle child of Samsung’s upcoming flagship series, was destined to be scrapped this year, as the original plan was to replace it with a Galaxy S26 Edge, a slimmer modern device to compete with other ultra-slim flagship smartphones. However, due to the poor response of last year’s Galaxy S25 Edge, Samsung reportedly scrapped the Edge series entirely and brought the S26+ back from the dead.
Hence, the work on Galaxy S26+ started late, and the company is now scrambling to get it done. Insiders speaking to Korean publication The Elec have revealed that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S26+ will likely get the fewest upgrades in specifications, to the point you would probably not be able to distinguish it from the Galaxy S25+, especially in terms of display, battery, and charging speeds.
Samsung Galaxy S26+: Expected specifications
The Korean publication has tipped that the Galaxy S26+ will retain the 6.66-inch AMOLED screen size found on the Galaxy S25 Plus, with the same 2K resolution and OLED tech. The company has reportedly taken this decision to ensure it could hit its manufacturing targets on time. The recycling effort continues in the battery department as well, with the phone set to retain the 4,900mAh battery and 45W wired charging speeds of its predecessor.
However, one key change could be the presence of the newer Exynos 2600 or Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset on the upcoming model, depending on the region. Moreover, previous rumours indicated that the Galaxy S26+ will have built-in magnets for Qi2 wireless charging support, meaning we could see a boost in wireless charging speeds past the dated 15W limit. The Galaxy S26 series will also include the vanilla Galaxy S26 and Galaxy S26 Ultra, and is expected to be unveiled in February, a month later than the S25 series last year. However, the exact release date of the lineup is still unknown.
