Rumours about Samsung working on a triple foldable smartphone have been floating around. And, the company might have put them to an end.
Samsung has officially confirmed its plans to launch a tri-fold smartphone by the end of 2025, adding a new category to its expanding foldable portfolio.
TM Roh, Head of Samsung’s Mobile eXperience Business, has stated that the company is actively working on a tri-fold device and aiming for a release before 2025 ends.
In an interview with The Korea Times, Roh said, “We are working hard on a trifold smartphone with the goal of launching it at the end of this year.” He added that the company is still perfecting the usability and design of the product, and a final name has yet to be decided. Roh noted that the naming decision would come closer to the product's commercial debut.
While no specifications or design details have been confirmed yet, the device is expected to feature three folding panels, potentially allowing it to transition between smartphone, tablet, and even laptop-like configurations.
An unnamed executive reportedly reiterated to Android Authority that development is ongoing and that the product is nearing completion.
Meanwhile, speculation about its branding continues, with some reports suggesting it might be named the “Galaxy G Fold,” referencing the hinge design resembling the letter G.
Huawei has released its Mate XT tri-fold phone earlier this year, making it the first commercially available model with an accordion-like folding mechanism. However, it comes with a premium price tag of around $2,800.
The upcoming tri-fold device would mark Samsung’s biggest form factor innovation since the introduction of the original Galaxy Z Fold.
