Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) has announced an expansion of its partnership with Google Cloud to establish a state-of-the-art, AI-focused cloud region in Jamnagar, marking a major step in India’s ambition to lead the global AI race.
Under the collaboration, Google Cloud will provide its latest-generation generative AI compute expertise, while Reliance will design, build, and power the cloud facilities with green energy and connect them through Jio’s digital network.
The new AI infrastructure is aimed at powering Reliance’s retail ecosystem, modernizing its businesses, and enabling enterprises, startups, developers, and the public sector to deploy high-performance AI-driven solutions.
The dedicated Jamnagar cloud region will link to metros like Mumbai and Delhi through Jio’s high-capacity fiber connectivity and will be powered entirely by Reliance’s renewable energy initiatives, ensuring sustainability at hyperscale.
“This partnership with Google Cloud marks a new chapter in India’s technology journey,” said Mukesh D. Ambani, Chairman & Managing Director, Reliance Industries Limited. “By bringing Google Cloud’s AI capabilities to Jamnagar, supported by Reliance’s infrastructure, renewable energy, and nationwide network, we are laying the foundation for India to become a global leader in AI. Just as Jio and Google came together to democratize the internet for every Indian, we will now democratize intelligence for every Indian.”
Google Cloud’s AI hypercomputer and fully integrated AI stack—including generative AI models, development platforms, and AI-powered applications—will be deployed at the Jamnagar facility. The site will be fully compliant with Google Cloud’s global specifications and service-level standards, enabling it to handle the most demanding AI workloads.
“At Google, we’ve long been investing in India’s digital future, and our partnership with Reliance and Jio has been an important part of how we do that,” said Sundar Pichai, CEO, Google and Alphabet. “Our work together over the last decade has helped bring affordable internet access to millions. And now, we are building on this to help shape the next leap with AI. This is only the beginning, and we look forward to building India’s AI future together.”
