RedNote, a Chinese app has suddenly started gaining popularity in the United States as the country plans to ban TikTok on January 19. The entire move even sparked humour, and Chinese netizens humorously welcomed TikTok ‘refugees’ on the platform.

Now, if you are wondering whether the RedNote app is available or banned in India, then the answer is the app is available in India on both Android and iPhone via PlayStore and App Store respectively.

On Android, open the Google Play Store app on your phone or tablet

Then, search for the RedNote app and then download it from the search result.

To download the app on your iPhone, head to the App Store and search for the RedNote app.

Now, hit the ‘Get’ button to start the downloading process.

Login is mandatory to use the RedNote app. The app gives three options to log in – Phone number, Facebook and Gmail. iOS users can also use the Apple login method.

Apart from login, the app also needs a couple of permissions to function properly. For instance, it asks for Notification, Contacts, Location and Camera and Microphone access. Do keep in mind that the app works just fine without allowing these permissions.

As you move on with the set-up process, you’ll be asked to choose up to five topics that interest you. Choose them and hit the ‘Next’ button.

That’s pretty much it. Once you’ve completed all these steps, the app is ready to use.

Using RedNote is a simple affair, just kike other short video platforms. You can choose from multiple tabs at the top including the Video tab where you can watch videos posted by other users on the platform. Moreover, there’s a dedicated feed for people you follow, similar to the Instagram app.

If you tap on the hamburger menu at the top left corner, then you find the Creator section where you can start creating and posting your content.

For posts, you can Like Star and Comment on them. Long pressing on the post brings up an additional menu – More Similar content, Save, Remix and Not Interested.

You can also share the post with other users you follow or even create a new group or share them in the existing groups.

While everything looks just fine as the app is natively available on both platforms, there are certain things that you need to keep in mind.

Language can be a barrier. The app supports English, however, most content and some in-app content, including UI elements are in Chinese.

Permissions are fine, but the app needs access to the phone and calls, although it is optional.
