Qualcomm Technologies kicked off its ‘Snapdragon for India – XR Day’ in New Delhi, putting the spotlight on spatial computing with smart glasses, mixed reality (MR), and artificial intelligence (AI) at the center. The event marks a deeper push from Qualcomm into India’s extended reality (XR) landscape, with a focus on smart eyewear powered by its Snapdragon XR platforms.

Focus on AI and spatial computing

The highlight of the event was a live demonstration by Alex Katouzian, Group General Manager of Mobile, Compute & XR at Qualcomm, where a small language model (SLM) was shown running fully on a pair of AI glasses. This on-device AI capability—seeing what the user sees and hearing what the user hears—is positioned as a step toward more intuitive and personalised XR experiences.

The Snapdragon XR portfolio already powers more than 100 devices worldwide, and Qualcomm sees India as a critical market for growth. According to Katouzian, AI will be foundational in the next phase of XR development by enabling smarter, faster, and more immersive applications in real time, without relying on constant cloud connectivity.

Partnership with Lenskart and India plans

Qualcomm is collaborating with Indian eyewear brand Lenskart to bring smart glasses to consumers in the country. These AI-enabled glasses, powered by Snapdragon chipsets, aim to balance lightweight design with powerful local computing and communication features, enabling daily utility for users beyond just display and navigation.

Savi Soin, Sr. VP and President, Qualcomm India, said India is poised to play a key role in global XR adoption. He highlighted potential use cases like remote education, support for frontline workers, and improved digital accessibility—aligning the technology with India’s broader development goals under ‘Viksit Bharat’.
