Qualcomm launches Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip for next-gen flagship phones

Qualcomm has introduced its Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, the company calls it the fastest mobile chip in the world. This new chip is designed to make smartphones more powerful, smarter, and more efficient for everyday users as well as creators and gamers.

One of the biggest upgrades is speed. The new chip allows lightning-fast multitasking, meaning switching between apps is smoother and lag-free. Gaming sessions are expected to last longer without draining battery, thanks to improved performance and energy efficiency.

Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 also focuses heavily on AI capabilities. Qualcomm says the chip can power personalized AI assistants that learn from how you use your phone. These AI agents can make suggestions, help with tasks across apps, and even provide tips based on your surroundings—all while keeping your personal data on the device, so nothing is sent to the cloud.

For creators, the new chip is a big step forward. It is the world’s first mobile platform to support Advanced Professional Video (APV) recording, letting users shoot videos with professional-level quality. With AI-powered camera features, the chip gives more control over video editing and post-production, helping creators realize their artistic vision right from a smartphone.

Under the hood, the chip uses Qualcomm’s 3rd Gen Oryon CPU, which is about 20% faster than the previous generation. The new Adreno GPU makes graphics-intensive games run 23% smoother, and the Hexagon NPU boosts AI performance by 37%. In simple terms, apps open faster, games look better, and AI features respond more intelligently.

The chip will appear in flagship smartphones from major brands including Samsung, Xiaomi, OnePlus, OPPO, Sony, vivo, realme, REDMI, Honor, and more. New devices powered by Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 are expected to launch soon, offering users a glimpse of the next generation of mobile experiences.
