PlayStation The First 30 Years

Sony is celebrating three decades of the PlayStation console with the launch of a photography book dedicated to the evolution and history of its gaming console over the years. The book is called “PlayStation: The First 30 Years” and comes in two editions: Standard and Deluxe. The Standard Edition is priced at Rs 11,600 while the Deluxe Edition (an oversized hardcover with an exposed binding, a clamshell presentation box and exclusive prints) comes at Rs 29,900.

The month of September marked 30 years since the launch of the first PlayStation by the Japanese tech giant. As per Sony, PlayStation: The First 30 Years is “the definitive visual chronicle” of its video game console. As per the company, the 400-page-long, large-format photography book includes “never-before-seen prototypes, concept sketches, and design models that shaped hardware development at Sony Interactive Entertainment.”

Only 1,994 copies of The PlayStation photography book have been printed, and over 580 of them have already been sold.

The book overview reads: “Across 400 large-format pages, the book showcases never-before-seen consoles, controllers, and design studies – from experimental early mockups that never left the studio to the finely honed forms of the PlayStation console through to the PlayStation 5 console. Alongside these striking images are insights from the engineers and designers who shaped PlayStation’s identity, including Ken Kutaragi, Teiyu Goto, and Yujin Morisawa, revealing the creative and technical decisions behind some of the most iconic hardware in gaming history.”

PlayStation: The First 30 Years is set to launch globally in Spring 2026. Preorders for the book are now open.
