Aravind Srinivas, co-founder and CEO of Perplexity AI, has made a bold statement about the future of office work, claiming that the Comet browser could eventually replace two key white-collar roles: Recruiters and Administrative assistants. Speaking in recent interviews and podcasts, Srinivas highlighted how AI is evolving to take over routine office functions, urging young professionals to adapt quickly or risk being left behind.
AI as a recruiterAccording to Srinivas, the Comet browser—combined with advanced language models—can automate nearly every step of a recruiter’s job. On The Verge's Decoder podcast, he explained how a single prompt could handle tasks such as sourcing candidates, reaching out, tracking responses, and updating spreadsheets. Comet can even schedule interviews by syncing with calendars and generating meeting briefs, eliminating the need for manual follow-ups.
“A recruiter’s week’s worth of work is just one prompt,” Srinivas said. “It doesn’t even have to be a prompt—it should be proactive.”
This level of automation, he argues, is already within reach and will become mainstream as tools like Comet mature.

AI as an administrative assistantSrinivas extended this prediction to administrative roles as well. By automating follow-ups, calendar coordination, and document tracking, AI agents can replicate the core responsibilities of office administrators. He believes the shift is inevitable, with AI models improving every few months.
Tasks such as scheduling meetings, resolving calendar conflicts, and preparing briefs before appointments are already being handled by AI-powered systems, suggesting a future where office support roles may be fully digitised.
Access and limitationsCurrently, Comet is available only to paying users, though Perplexity has begun rolling out limited access to free users. Srinivas confirmed in a Reddit AMA that while the basic browser may become widely available, more advanced agent-based features will remain exclusive to premium users.
Comet is being pitched as an AI web browser, and while it can do all the regular AI stuffs like creating image, generating texts, draft emails, etc. It goes beyond that by integrating itself with the services. For instance, it can reason with a website and help you book a ticket. Similarly it can find the best deals and discount offers. But it does not end here. Ask it to book an appointment and it will get it done as well. In fact, you can automate the tasks – for example, you want to book an appointment at your favourite saloon monthly – you can ask Comet Assistant to automate it on a particular date and time.
