Chinese smartphone maker Oppo and Swedish camera equipment manufacturer Hasselblad have extended their strategic partnership to develop a next-generation imaging system for Oppo’s upcoming flagship phones. The announcement was made at a recent event in Gothenburg, Sweden, and comes after the collaboration of both companies for the last four years on the OPPO flagship Find Series of smartphones.
Oppo and Hasselblad’s partnership: Key details
Oppo and Hasselblad have confirmed that they are now co-developing their next-generation mobile imaging system, aiming to raise the bar for smartphone photography. The two brands have been working together since 2022, with Hasselblad contributing its expertise in colour science and professional photography for Oppo’s flagship Find X Series smartphones.
The result has been a range of imaging features designed to reflect Hasselblad’s distinctive visual identity, like the Natural Color Solution, adapted specifically for mobile, and the Portrait Mode that mimics the bokeh of classic Hasselblad lenses. Further outcomes of the partnership include a Master Mode tuned to match the color science of the Hasselblad X2D, and an XPAN Mode, which recreates the brand’s signature 65:24 wide aspect ratio.
Pete Lau, Chief Product Officer at Oppo, said, “Over the past four years, we have brought the truly professional, legendary camera experience of Hasselblad to Oppo’s global users. With the extension of our collaboration, we will push the boundaries of mobile imaging even further.” The China-based smartphone maker claims that its upcoming technology will establish a new standard of quality and experience when it comes to mobile photography. More details about this next-gen mobile imaging system will be announced later in the year.
