ChatGPT, which was launched in 2022 by Open AI, can generate human-like responses based on user prompts. Since its inception, the chatbot has seen a meteoric rise and has been one of the most popular tools to generate human-like responses globally. OpenAI’s CEO had suggested that had 100 million weekly active users in November.
However, the AI startup has now confirmed that it has more than 200 million weekly active users on ChatGPT globally. The company has also informed that 92% of Fortune 500 companies are using its AI-powered products, and the use of its automated Application Programming Interface (API). This API allows software programs to talk to each other and has doubled since the launch of ChatGPT-4o mini in July.
GPT-4o mini is a cost-efficient small AI model, aimed at making OpenAI’s conversational-based technology more affordable and less energy-intensive, allowing OpenAI to be used by a wider audience and increasing its popularity in the last two months.
OpenAI’s spokesperson Taya Christianson confirmed these developments to The Verge, as the AI startup approaches its second anniversary this fall. ChatGPT’s growing popularity has also driven the popularity of other AI tools such as Copilot and Google Gemini, and fueled a meteoric rise in the valuation of the San Francisco-based OpenAI.
