OpenAI has rolled out a significant update to its GPT-4o model, enhancing both its intelligence and personality, according to CEO Sam Altman’s announcement on X . In a post on X, Altman said, “We updated GPT-4o today! improved both intelligence and personality.”
While Altman didn’t elaborate on the details of what the upgrade brings, it does suggest that ChatGPT has become more intuitive and engaging, aligning with OpenAI’s vision of creating more human-like conversational agents.
The improvements in GPT-4o are expected to benefit various applications, from customer service to creative writing, by providing more nuanced and context-aware responses. Users can anticipate a more personalized experience, with the AI demonstrating a better understanding of emotional cues and conversational subtleties.
A Twitter user suggested that ChatGPT has “been feeling very yes-man like lately” and that he would like to see that change in future updates. Altman acknowledged the user and agreed. “Yeah it glazes too much. Will fix,” replied Altman to the user on X.
Meanwhile, OpenAI also recently released o3 and o4-mini, the latest models in its o-series designed to think more deeply before responding. “These are our most advanced models yet, marking a significant leap in ChatGPT’s capabilities—for everyone from everyday users to expert researchers,” said OpenAI.
The company also said that these reasoning-focused models can seamlessly and intelligently use all of ChatGPT’s tools: from web browsing and data analysis with Python, to interpreting images and generating new ones. “Most importantly, they’ve been trained to know when and how to use these tools effectively, delivering accurate, well-structured answers to complex questions—typically in under a minute,” added the company.
