OpenAI has begun testing a new feature, dubbed ‘Study Together,’ within the ChatGPT app. A small number of ChatGPT Plus users have started noticing this new mode and have posted screenshots of it. The ‘Study Together’ mode appears in their tools menu, even though OpenAI hasn’t officially announced anything yet. Moreover, it could let students invite their friends to study with them on ChatGPT or have the AI act as a study partner.
ChatGPT ‘Study Together’ feature: Here’s how it works
As first spotted by multiple ChatGPT users via TechCrunch, the ‘Study Together’ mode can be accessed from the dropdown menu in the text box, and is expected to change how students prepare for exams, making learning more interactive and collaborative. Further, it is tipped to turn ChatGPT into a shared learning space, making it great for classmates or friends preparing for exams together.
Previously, an X user was able to use this ‘Study Together’ tool using the o3 model on ChatGPT. The subsequent screenshots reveal a standard UI where you can ask questions to learn about any topic, and also suggest tailored exercises and create small tests to practice within the interface for multiple users. However, since the feature isn't fully operational, we still don't know how it will actually work.
Therefore, we need to wait for the official announcement from OpenAI to understand what this new tool does. The AI firm has also not made any announcement about Study Together's possible release date. However, with so many appearances of the tool, we can surely expect some concrete information about it in the coming weeks.
