OpenAI’s video generation app, Sora, is now available on Android. The app, which turns text prompts into realistic videos, can be downloaded from the Google Play Store. Until now, it was only available for iPhone users.

With the Android launch, Sora is expanding its reach to more countries, including the United States, Canada, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam. Users can now create short videos simply by typing what they want to see. The app then generates a full video complete with motion, background and even sound, based on the description provided.

Sora lets users experiment with different visual styles such as cinematic, animated or realistic. It also includes a feature called “cameo,” which allows users to include themselves or friends in the generated video if they choose to. This makes it possible to create short creative clips, story-style videos or even imaginary scenes without any professional tools or editing skills.

The app has already drawn massive attention. When it first launched on iOS, it recorded over a million downloads in less than a week. The Android release is expected to give it another big boost, opening the platform to millions of new users who can now try text-to-video creation on their phones.

However, Sora’s growing popularity has also led to debates about how such technology could be used. The ability to generate highly realistic videos raises questions about deepfakes, misinformation and content ownership. OpenAI says it has introduced safeguards to prevent misuse and will continue to improve detection systems as more people begin to use the app.

Despite these concerns, Sora has quickly become a creative playground for many. People are using it to make short films, music videos, funny memes and personal clips. For OpenAI, the Android rollout marks another step in making advanced AI tools available to the public.

Sora’s arrival on Android shows how quickly AI video tools are moving from research labs into everyday use. What once required expensive software and hours of editing can now be done in minutes with a few lines of text. Whether for fun, storytelling or professional use, the way people create videos is changing—and OpenAI’s Sora is helping lead that shift.
