OpenAI CEO Sam Altman confirmed that the company has finalised the development of o3-Mini, its latest AI model that has undergone extensive testing by external safety researchers. In a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Altman expressed gratitude to these researchers for their contributions to ensuring the model meets safety and performance standards. “Thank you to the external safety researchers who tested o3-mini. We have now finalized a version and are beginning the release process; planning to ship in ~a couple of weeks. Also, we heard the feedback: will launch api and Chatgpt at the same time! (it's very good.),” said Altman in the post.
The finalised version of o3-Mini is now entering the release phase, with plans to ship the product in approximately few weeks. As Altman said in his post, OpenAI also addressed community feedback, and will simultaneously launch an API and ChatGPT integration for o3-Mini.
The integration of ChatGPT with o3-Mini model is expected to enhance accessibility for developers and users, providing a streamlined experience across multiple platforms. By releasing the API alongside ChatGPT, OpenAI aims to support both consumer and developer communities simultaneously, fostering early adoption and experimentation.
The upcoming o3-Mini model is designed to build upon its predecessors, with a specific focus on handling complex queries in science, coding, and mathematics. The goal is to deliver performance comparable to that of a large language model, while maintaining a more lightweight and efficient design.
It’s not clear whether OpenAI will keep the model for free users or make it available to paid subscribers of ChatGPT.
