Back in February this year, OpenAI had announced its first text to video AI tool called Sora. It was only limited to a select researchers. Now, however, OpenAI has rolled out Sora to the general public.

What is Sora?

Sora is a powerful AI tool which offers a range of features, including the ability to replace, remove, or reimagine elements within videos, isolate and extend the best frames. Furthermore it can organise and edit sequences, create seamless loops, blend multiple videos, and apply custom styles.

Users can generate videos up to 1080p resolution, up to 20 sec long, and in widescreen, vertical or square aspect ratios. “You can bring your own assets to extend, remix, and blend, or generate entirely new content from text,” said OpenAI.

OpenAI also said that the version of Sora it is deploying has many limitations. It often generates unrealistic physics and struggles with complex actions over long durations. “Although Sora Turbo is much faster than the February preview, we’re still working to make the technology affordable for everyone,” said the company.

Who can access Sora?

Access to Sora is currently limited to paying subscribers. ChatGPT Plus users can generate up to 50 priority videos with a maximum resolution of 720p and a duration of 5 seconds. ChatGPT Pro subscribers enjoy more generous limits, including up to 500 priority videos, 1080p resolution, 20-second duration, and the ability to run multiple generations simultaneously.

How much does it cost to use Sora?

The monthly subscription to ChatGPT Plus starts at $20 whereas ChatGPT Pro subscribers have to shell out $200 per month.
