Nothing has been rolling out its latest Android 16-based Nothing OS 4.0 update to its older smartphones gradually. The company has now started rolling out the update for two of its smartphones -- Phone 3a and Phone 3a Pro. The update brings several new features including the much-anticipated Essential Space along with design updates and new features to these two phones.

First make sure that your phone is charged enough -- the more the better and has enough storage space.

Now, head to Settings --> System --> System updates --> Check for updates

Once the update is available. Hit the 'Download and install' button

Wait for the process to complete and the phone to restart.

That's it! your Nothing smartphone now has the latest Nothing OS 4.0. installed.

Nothing OS 4.0 brings an AI usage dashboard that tracks large-language-model activity inside Essential Space. Users get enhanced privacy with the new hidden apps option for the home screen and App Drawer. The update introduces Essential Apps (Alpha) and the Playground for community-driven AI tools. Camera upgrades include new watermarks, adjustable filters with Stretch styles, and longer Motion Photos with audio. The Glyph Interface now supports Android 16 Live Updates for third-party apps. The system adds redesigned icons, updated status bar visuals, two new lock-screen clocks, Extra Dark Mode, more widget sizes, and dual pop-up floating icons.
