New Aadhaar app

After testing the New Aadhaar app for several months in Early Access, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has  launched a new app for all users that allows users to carry their Aadhaar card digitally on their smartphones. Available for both iPhone and Android users, the app eliminates the need to carry a physical Aadhaar card for identity verification. It introduces key security and convenience features such as biometric verification, face scan login, and multi-profile support — allowing users to manage multiple Aadhaar accounts linked to the same mobile number.

Features

The new Aadhaar app comes with enhanced privacy and authentication tools. Users can log in using their registered mobile number and access Aadhaar details securely through facial recognition. The face scan feature ensures that only the registered Aadhaar holder can access the digital ID, reducing risks of misuse.

Another important addition is multi-profile support, which enables users to add and manage Aadhaar profiles of family members who share the same registered mobile number. This feature simplifies access for families who often need to verify Aadhaar details for government services, school admissions, or healthcare documentation.

The app also allows users to hide specific personal information — such as address or date of birth — when not required for verification. This selective sharing feature ensures greater privacy during authentication processes.

Offline accessibility

While the initial setup requires an internet connection, the Aadhaar app supports offline access for viewing saved Aadhaar details once configured. This allows users to verify or present their digital Aadhaar anytime, even without connectivity. However, full functionality such as updates or biometric verification still requires an active internet connection.

Availability

The new Aadhaar app is now available on both the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. Users can search for the “Aadhaar App” and download it directly. Once installed, they can log in using their registered mobile number to set up the digital ID with facial verification.
