Netflix experienced a widespread outage across the United States late on May 29 (ET), leaving tens of thousands of subscribers unable to stream content. The issue peaked at around 9 PM ET (7 AM IST on May 30), with outage tracking site Downdetector registering over 70,000 complaints in a short span.
Most users were greeted with the frustrating error message: “This title is not available to watch instantly.” According to Downdetector, 85% of affected users reported video streaming issues, while 14% cited server connectivity problems. A small fraction (1%) faced trouble logging into the app. The glitch sparked a wave of memes and complaints on social media platform X, as Netflix subscribers tried to cope with the downtime.
Netflix acknowledged the issue shortly after, confirming on its official status page that some titles were temporarily inaccessible. The company has yet to provide a detailed explanation or a specific timeline for full service restoration.
Interestingly, the outage appeared to be localised to the United States, with no reports of disruptions from Indian users or other international regions.
