Multiple Microsoft services are experiencing a significant global outage, according to a surge in user reports on service status monitor Downdetector. Users began reporting issues late on Wednesday, with problems primarily centred around server connectivity and logins for several of the company's major platforms. The outage appears to be widespread, affecting users across various regions.

Microsoft services affected by the outage

The platforms most impacted by the ongoing issues include key components of Microsoft's gaming and digital retail ecosystem. Downdetector graphs show a sharp spike in problem reports for the Xbox Network (formerly Xbox Live), the foundational online service for Xbox consoles.

Additionally, the popular sandbox game Minecraft is facing a similar increase in outage reports, indicating that its online multiplayer and authentication services are affected. The Microsoft Store, the digital marketplace for apps and other content on Windows, is also experiencing a notable number of user-reported problems. The widespread nature of the reports points to a potential core infrastructure issue within Microsoft's network.

Issues users are facing

The primary problems reported by users are related to server connections. For the Xbox Network, 68% of reports cite server connection failures, while 25% are related to login issues. Minecraft users are facing similar challenges, with 53% of reports pointing to server connection problems and 38% to login failures.

For the Microsoft Store, login issues are the most common complaint, accounting for 59% of the reports. Another 28% of users are reporting problems with the app itself, and 13% are experiencing issues with the website. The consistent theme across the affected services is the inability to connect to servers and authenticate, preventing access to online gameplay, digital content, and account management.
