Microsoft has released a new USB recovery tool to help IT administrators and users fix the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) issue, which plagued most Windows PCs on Friday. The root cause of this issue was because of a faulty CrowdStrike update, and the company has announced via its official blog post the release of this new recovery tool to rectify this issue. CrowdStrike previously revealed that its faulty update for Falcon Sensor impacted more than 8.5 million Windows devices globally.
The new USB recovery tool released by Microsoft automatically deletes CrowdStrike-related files from the Windows OS using a bootable USB drive. Previously, users were required to manually remove those files by booting into safe mode or by waiting for a patch update. However, many IT administrators were finding it difficult to remove the CrowdStrike malware.
Hence, this update will come as a welcome boon for them. The latest Microsoft recovery tool is now available for download from the Microsoft Download Center. You need to then install the tool into an empty flash or USB drive with up to 32GB storage.
The recovery tool will then automatically remove the problematic CrowdStrike file from your Windows PC. It is also convenient as it eliminates the need for manual intervention like entering Safe Mode or logging in with administrator privileges, which can be a time-consuming process for large deployments.
Microsoft has further added that the faulty update has been successfully patched, and the new tool will ensure that any subsequent issues are not present on your PC anymore.
