After announcing a series of new features for its popular AI chatbot, Microsoft has now launched a dedicated Copilot app for Mac. It's rolling out today in the US, the UK and Canada. Moreover, the app’s functionalities sound pretty much identical to the experience of going to the web version of Copilot as it will provide access to all the functionalities such as uploading images and generating images or text with the help of AI.
Copilot AI is now available as an app on MacOS: Key features
At its core, the Copilot Mac app is still largely a web app in a dedicated window, meaning it doesn’t offer deep system integration like other AI apps. However, it does include a menu bar icon for quick access and a prompt bar on the desktop for easier interaction. Further, users can press ‘option + Space bar’ on macOS to quickly launch the Copilot app and ask questions or initiate a voice chat.
How to download Microsoft Copilot app on Mac
Copilot Mac app also gets Apple ID support, making it easier for users to log in without needing a Microsoft account. Moreover, it will soon get document summarization, allowing users to upload text or PDF files and generate summaries, a feature already available on the Copilot app for iPhone and iPad.
As for its compatibility, the Copilot macOS app requires macOS 14.0 (Mojave) or later and is only compatible with Apple Silicon (M1 or later) Macbooks. That means Intel Mac users won’t be able to install it, even though it’s essentially a web-based app.
