The ministry of electronics and information technology (MeitY) has called for two meetings with industry players and associations to discuss the concerns regarding the digital competition bill.
The first meeting is set to be held on June 13, and the second on June 18, Moneycontrol has learnt.
“Numerous representations are being received.. on the draft Digital Competition Bill, raising serious concerns regarding the impact of the proposed Bill on data and digital markets. In this regard, a meeting is scheduled under the chairmanship of Secretary, MeitY in the presence of AS (Additional Secretary ), MeitY and officials to discuss the representations…’” stated the email notice sent by Meity.
The meeting will be attended by the Joint Secretary, Ministry of Corporate Affairs along with concerned officials of CCI.
The digital competition bill was introduced by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs in February 2024 to address anti-competitive practices by Big Tech firms. However, concerns have been raised not just by Big Tech companies, but also startups, who have claimed that the bill will have detrimental impact on startups.
