MediaTek has launched its new flagship smartphone chipset, the Dimensity 9400. The new chipset is designed to enhance AI, gaming, and photography capabilities. The chipset, built on Arm's v9.2 CPU architecture, offers improved performance and efficiency over its predecessor, the Dimensity 9300.
MediaTek Dimensity 9400 features
The Dimensity 9400 features a second-generation All Big Core design, including a Cortex-X925 core running at over 3.62GHz, three Cortex-X4 cores, and four Cortex-A720 cores. This configuration delivers a 35% increase in single-core and a 28% improvement in multi-core performance compared to the Dimensity 9300. Built on TSMC’s second-generation 3nm process, the new SoC provides up to 40% more power efficiency.
The chipset includes MediaTek’s 8th-generation NPU, which supports on-device LoRA training, video generation, and Agentic AI development. Large language model prompt performance is enhanced by 80%, and the NPU offers up to 35% greater power efficiency than its predecessor.
For gaming, the Dimensity 9400 integrates the 12-core Arm Immortalis-G925 GPU, which offers up to 40% faster ray tracing and supports opacity micromaps for enhanced visuals. Gaming performance is boosted by 41% with up to 44% power savings, and HyperEngine technology provides improved picture quality and super-resolution.
Photography is powered by MediaTek's Imagiq 1090 engine, offering HDR video recording across the zoom range and reduced power consumption in 4K60 video capture. Smooth Zoom technology is also available for capturing moving subjects.
Additional features include a 5G modem with 4CC-CA and 7Gbps sub-6GHz speeds, Wi-Fi 7 support, and MediaTek Xtra Range 3.0 for enhanced coverage. The Dimensity 9400 supports dual SIM, dual active 5G/4G capabilities, and is compatible with tri-fold smartphone designs. Devices powered by the Dimensity 9400 will be available in Q4 2024
