Maharashtra government is setting up an advanced State Data Centre in Nagpur to ensure security of the state's sovereign data and applications, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said on March 6.
This will be a part of the state’s proposed cyber security policy in line with its Viksit Maharashtra 2047 plan. This policy is aimed at making the state a secure, reliable and future-ready digital state.
“In order to ensure security of the state's sovereign data and applications, an advanced State Data Centre will be set up at Nagpur,” Fadnavis said during his budget speech in Mumbai.
Additionally, the government is working towards creating special policies for the State with the intent of developing a world-class hub in the field of cutting-edge technologies like Artificial Intelligence, quantum computing, drones, autonomous vehicles and deeptech along with creating an ecosystem for research and innovation and high value products.
The government has also signed letters of intent with prominent global and national level artificial intelligence (AI) companies including OpenAI, Sarvam AI, IIT Bombay and BharatGen to convert the state’s information technology sector to ‘artificial intelligence sector’.
