Apple has officially released the public beta of macOS Tahoe, giving Mac users an early look at its biggest software overhaul in years. Anyone keen to test-drive the new OS can sign up at Apple’s beta software website. The current public beta is the same build as Developer Beta 4, so you’re getting the latest version available.
At the heart of macOS Tahoe is Liquid Glass, the sleek new UI language Apple introduced with iOS 26. It’s not just a cosmetic update — the design now touches everything: app icons, folders, menus, the Dock, Control Center, and Menu Bar. Customisation is front and centre — you can tweak widgets, folders, icons, and even reposition Menu Bar and Control Center elements.
Safari gets a significant update, with a cleaner tab layout and a redesigned sidebar for better organisation. But perhaps the biggest surprise? Apple has finally brought the Phone app to the Mac. With support for Wi-Fi Calling, Call Screening, and Hold Assist, it turns your Mac into a proper communication hub — no iPhone required nearby.
Spotlight search has also been supercharged. It now supports hundreds of quick actions — from setting timers to creating notes — without opening separate apps.
Gamers haven’t been left out either. The new Apple Games app debuts here too, along with a Game Overlay feature, and support for Metal 4, promising richer gaming experiences on Mac.
To try it yourself, head to Software Update in System Settings after enrolling in Apple’s Beta Program.
